Let’s be honest…
Almost everyone knows someone who’s taking “the jab” for weight loss. It’s in conversations at school pick-up. It’s in whispers between friends. It’s comments at the gyms. And for many people, it feels like finally — a solution.
Until it isn’t.
Because what I’m hearing more and more in the therapy room sounds like this: “I couldn’t tolerate the side effects.” “The weight started coming back when I stopped.” “Now my head is louder than ever.”
“I feel like I’ve failed… again.” And that’s where the real problem begins.
The Missing Piece: The Mind
Weight loss drugs can suppress appetite. They can change hunger signals. They can reduce food noise temporarily.
But they don’t teach:
- how to regulate emotions
- how to manage stress without food
- how to quiet the inner critic
- how to trust your body
- how to maintain change long-term
- how to build identity beyond weight
And most importantly, they can send a subtle but powerful message: “You can’t do this on your own. ”That message creates helplessness. Not empowerment.
When the drug stops… the old coping strategies return. The old beliefs return. The fear returns. And the body does what bodies do when the mind hasn’t changed. When weight comes back, it’s not just physical. It’s psychological. Suddenly the noise is louder:
- “What’s wrong with me?”
- “Why can’t I keep this off?”
- “I need something external to fix me.”
This isn’t a willpower issue. It’s a skills issue. And no injection teaches skills.
What GLP-1s Can’t Provide (But the Mind Can)
There is a massive demand right now for the very things medication cannot give:
- Mindset – changing the unconscious beliefs that drive eating
- Habits – not through force, but through safety and consistency
- Emotional regulation – learning to feel without numbing
- Identity – moving from “I’m broken” to “I’m capable”
- Maintenance – the hardest part of any change
True transformation isn’t about shrinking the body. It’s about expanding the inner capacity to cope, choose, and sustain.
The Role of Hypnosis & Mind-Based Work
Hypnosis doesn’t fight the body. It works with the unconscious mind — where patterns are formed.
It helps people: reduce food noise naturally, detach emotion from eating, feel safe without controlling, build self-trust, shift from shame to agency. Instead of: “I need something outside of me to fix this…” The message becomes: “I have tools inside me.” That’s empowerment.
That’s sustainable change.
This Isn’t Anti-Medication. It’s Pro-People.
Some people will use medication as a short-term support. But without psychological skills, it becomes a temporary solution to a long-term problem. Because weight struggles are rarely about food alone.
They’re about: stress, trauma, worth, safety, control, identity, self-soothing. And those live in the mind and nervous system.
The Question Worth Asking instead of: “What drug will finally make me lose weight?” A more powerful question is: “What would help me feel safe, capable, and in control of my own choices?” That’s where therapy and hypnosis come in. Not to tell you what to eat. But to help you change how you relate to food, your body, and yourself.
From Helplessness to Empowerment
You don’t need another external fix. You need internal skills.
Skills to:
- self-regulate
- self-soothe
- self-trust
- self-lead
- maintain change
And when those grow, weight loss stops being a battle… and becomes a by-product of psychological health. If you or someone you love is feeling stuck in the cycle of: medication → weight loss → rebound → shame → fear → repeat… There is another way. One that builds you up instead of outsourcing your power.
Your mind is not the problem. It’s the solution that’s been overlooked. And that’s a conversation worth having.
